Silk is one of the oldest and most mesmerizing fibers in the world. It is composed of natural protein, and has been used in textile manufacture for at least 5,000 years. Its high tensile strength, shine and ability to bind chemical dyes makes it both versatile and durable, while at the same time retaining an ethereal tactile quality that captures the collective imaginary in a rather mythical way.
Unknown to many, is the fact that Brazil is the largest producer of silk cocoons on a commercial scale in the West – and the fifth largest producer of silk yarn in the world, achieving an impressive 600 metric tons of raw silk yarn per year.
In this film, we enter an artisanal universe that is rarely shown, where silk production and its applications in the fashion world take on an intimate approach. We visit the farms where the cocoons are produced and the factory where the yarn is made – we follow that thread until its final stage of unspooling: Becoming a real, high fashion garment in the hands of a group of skilled crocheters in the small fishing town of Garopaba, located in the South of Brazil. That sustainable garment is then sold all over the world by “Leafy”, an emerging American-Brazilian fashion house based in NYC.

Desconhecido para muitos, é o fato de que o Brasil é o maior produtor de casulos de seda em escala comercial no Ocidente - e o quinto maior produtor de fio de seda do mundo, alcançando uma impressionante quantidade de 600 toneladas métricas de fio de seda crua por ano.
Neste filme, entramos num universo artesanal que raramente é mostrado, onde a produção de seda e suas aplicações no mundo da moda assumem uma abordagem íntima. Visitamos as fazendas onde os casulos são produzidos e a fábrica onde o fio é feito - seguimos esse fio até o seu desenrolar final: Tornar-se uma verdadeira peça de vestuário de alta costura nas mãos de um grupo de crocheteiras na pequena cidade pesqueira de Garopaba, localizada no Sul do Brasil. Essa peça de vestuário sustentável é então vendida em todo o mundo pela marca "Leafy", uma emergente casa de moda américo-brasileira sediada em NYC.
